The GA and Teachers TV

The GA has been 'connected' with Teachers TV for some time. When the channel was first launched, some questioned whether teachers would actually want to watch it, but it has obvious benefits as a way of delivering CPD and updating subject knowledge, and introducing new pedagogy.
There have been a number of programmes featuring RESOURCES (I was asked to take part in one some years back, relating to Google Earth, but couldn't make the recording date)
I also acted as the educational consultant on a programme looking at the Top 10 Geography Website resources...

I recommend registering to become a member. It's FREE and you can then DOWNLOAD programmes to watch at your leisure. Just noticed that I've been a member for 3 years and 29 29 weeks. Each programme also has some associated RESOURCES that are provided by the Educational Consultant involved in the programme...

Lately there have been some useful programmes. Here's a very small selection:

Key Stage 3: Geography Teachers in the Freezer

The first half of this programme looks at glaciers, using case studies of glaciers in both Norway and the South Pole. It also looks in more detail at Antarctica and the geography of the continent.

It then looks at the experience of a group of British teachers conducting geographical field work in Antarctica. While studying the abundance of cryoconite holes on a glacier, the teachers discover how tough it can be to undertake field work in a harsh climate.

Key Stage 3 / 4: Antarctica: A Future in the balance

This programme explores the key political and environmental issues that continue to surround Antarctica.

It looks at the value of scientific research, examining its increasing detrimental impact on the natural environment of the continent. The issue of tourism in Antarctica is also discussed, in addition to the threat that mining could pose to the environment, particularly if the ice continues to melt.

Each example is illustrated with a case study that ties in with the KS3 citizenship curriculum under Unit 21: people and the environment.

Key Stage 3 - Making Geography Popular

An important issue for many geography departments. A case study of a department which has been successful in increasing the uptake at Options time.

Professional Knowledge - Geography

Looks at the WORLDMAPPER project of Danny Dorling and colleagues, and explores ideas of globalisation. Also features Diane Swift at the GA.

This term, keep an eye out for some useful programmes.
On the 10th of September is UNCUT CLASSROOMS, looking at DECISION MAKING EXERCISES (something geographers use)
