A few hours in London...

Managed to get to the Magnificent Maps exhibition at the British Library, which has some remarkable vellum maps, and old maps of the UK... always interesting to see places around the area that you are familiar with. Also fascinating to trace your finger around the coast, and see the names of places that are no longer there...
The exhibition is split into several sections, and has lots to interest any visitor.
The final few maps are the most disappointing: a few more modern maps that look out of place with the ones that have survived for centuries...

It was also a chance to see Stephen Walter's magnificent "The Island", (the highlight of the exhibition) which I have blogged about before and get some postcards of sections of the map of London...

The full map is a remarkable piece of work, and the website linked to above has plenty of thumbnails of sections of the map.
What a challenge it would be for a group of students to overlay their own work / thoughts / experiences on a base map of their home area....
