Shelterbox in Haiti

Part of a presentation that I used last week in Bristol mentioned SHELTERBOX as a possible context for some work on AID, or INTERDEPENDENCE, or the way that communities prepare for NATURAL DISASTERS.
The box aids communities in their RESILIENCE: an important concept when looking at natural hazards.
There is also scope for activities exploring the best places to send Shelterboxes to, or to choose where to pitch the tent that is provided.

Shelterbox were in the news again at the weekend with respect to the 6 month milestone since the earthquakes in HAITI, to which many Shelterboxes were sent (also noticed a local school had been fund-raising to buy some this week)

A special feature in the OBSERVER magazine had some very useful images and information relating to the situation in HAITI, 6 months on from the quake. This is something that you need to put some time aside to watch.

There are hundreds of images on the SHELTERBOX FLICKR PAGE

The blog has a lot of recent NEWS ITEMS

I shall return to this as part of a writing project that I'm starting over the summer... More to come on that later - will be coming soon to a geography department near you...
