Shells on the Beach

I was fascinated by an article which came into my Twitter feed last week.
It's an article about the sand on the beaches in Normandy.
Geologists have looked at samples of the sand under a microscope and discovered that a good percentage of it is not made from sand grains, but from the detritus of war.
I used the example of Holderness in a similar way, with an article about the continued erosion of the Holderness coastline which resulted in unexploded ordnance from a training area near Hornsea.

A different type of shell on the beach.
